Built in 2002 by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Shimonoseki, Japan, MV 2GO Masikap originally began her maritime service as Ferry Kyoto II (later Ferry Kyoto 2) for Meimon Taiyō Ferry, spending two decades providing passenger and cargo transport along the Osaka–Shinmoji route between Honshu and Kyushu. Following her retirement from Japanese domestic service in early 2022, she was acquired by South Korea’s Hanil Express, refitted with enhanced cargo ramps, and renamed Blue Pearl to serve the busy crossing between Wando and Jeju Island. In late 2023, 2GO Group acquired the vessel as part of its fleet modernization initiative, bringing her to the Philippines where she was officially christened MV 2GO Masikap and deployed to connect major inter-island routes across Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.
