The original Ferry Toshima (IMO: 9211743), built in 2000, was a smaller vessel at 85.76 meters with a capacity for 200 passengers and 30 TEU of cargo. It has largely been replaced by the upgraded Ferry Toshima 2 for these routes.
For travel specifically from Tokyo (Takeshiba) to Toshima Island in the Izu chain, services are instead provided by Tokai Kisen using larger passenger ships like the Salvia Maru or high-speed jet ferries. Following its service in Japan, it was acquired by Cokaliong Shipping Lines in the Philippines and renamed M/V Filipinas Cagayan de Oro.
